Nick Hagadone Deserves the Big Leagues and Some More Than a Fan News

Asdrubal up, Hagadone down

The Cleveland Indians officially activated shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera from the Bereavement List on Monday April, 23rd. Cabrera is hittingĀ .282 (11-39) with 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 3 RBI and 8 runs scored in 8 games this season, making him arguably the Indians best player so far. Activating Asdrubal is such an obvious thing that mentioning it in a column would be nothing but a way to fill space if the Indians wouldn’t have chosen to option lefty reliever Nick Hagadone to the AAA Columbus Clippers in order to make room on the 25 man roster.

The tables below illustrate the plainness of the fact that Hagadone needs to help anchor this Indians bullpen. Hagadone could easily replace Dan Wheeler – 2012 ERA 5.30, career 3.89 – and become an integral part of the Bullpen Mafia.

More Than a Fan Doing Things

I know this isn’t usually the place where I spout off about the goings on for the website, but it’s been a long time since I gave anyone other than the six people that pay attention to me on twitter any kind of news about More Than a Fan.

One of the things that I’m most proud of is trying to spend as much time as I can to do things for causes greater than myself. MTAF is just starting out, and sometimes having a limited budget and juggling responsibilities makes it difficult to get a handle on things that we can get involved with to do more than just have the best sports opinions around. (hehe) So when the folks over at Sidelines Sports Bar in Elyria, Ohio mentioned that there was going to be a United Way Fundraiser in May, I jumped at the opportunity to try to help.

I’m happy to announce that Ryan and I will be taking the More Than a Fan Podcast on the road for the first time and will be LIVE at Sidelines Sports Bar on Thursday, May 17th. My hope is that we can use our bullhorn to spread the word far and wide. There will be great food specials and great times. And all for a great cause, the United Way of Greater Lorain County.

In addition to the site’s involvement with the United We Dine fundraiser, I do some fundraising on a personal level, too. This is my third year being involved with the National Kidney Foundation raising money for the Northeast Ohio Kidney Walk. There are ads on the site for my fundraising page, and my goal this year is to have half of my roughly 1,000 twitter followers to donate one cup of Starbucks in May. That’s $5. If you’re interested in helping me reach my goal, I’ll say really nice things about you.

As if that weren’t enough, we’ve recently added new columnist Hayden Grove and we probably won’t stop there. More Than a Fan isn’t going to stop growing and getting better any time soon, and we couldn’t have done it without all of our wonderful readers.

On behalf of the staff here at More Than a Fan, thank you all for putting up with us. And I can’t wait to meet you all at Sidelines Sports Bar May 17th!
